the little things

sometimes, it's the little things,
that can make you lose your mind.

so this month, i've been on a mission to fix all the little things driving me crazy in my life and home.
and let me tell you, it's been wonderfully liberating.

squeaky hinges...

silenced.

loud screeching chairs when moved around...

softened.

loose and messy stereo wires...

contained.

ugly bath hardware...

re-finished.

obnoxiously bright, hot windows...

eclipsed.

crazy broken phone...
replaced.

ava's bad habit...
history!**

what are some little things that are driving you nuts?
think about it, then get started "de-irritating" your life.
i promise you'll thank yourself.

**if you're having problems with a thumb sucker in your life... you need this stuff! (i've tried a product called THUM and it was a joke... it deterred her just as much as a coat of clear nail polish would.) but this "mavala stop" actually worked! it's absolutely disgusting and long-lasting. i painted my pinky nail with it, just to see what ava was having to endure and it was absolutely repulsive. she has yet to throw a fit about it... i keep telling her it's there to help her, and that's enough explanation right now for her to endure it. one taste and she caught right on. it's been about a week since i first used it and she has yet to suck her fingers once. it's even awful enough to deter her when she's asleep! it lasts for a few days, too, so you don't have to reapply multiple times a day. and there's no way those little ones can suck the taste off... seriously, it's bitter and awful. but having worked as an orthodontist assistant, i know it's a far better experience to fix the problem now with a little $12 nail polish than later with a lot of uncomfortable, expensive metal.

good luck
and you're welcome.

Well, I don't have thumb suckers, but my brother does. I am definitely going to send this info on to him! Good job on getting all those little annoyances taken care of...it has inspired me to do the same!

Some tings that drive me nuts are that my breaf stink in the morning and I wish small wonder wasn't really a robot. To make some one stop sucking their gum try poo poo on it.

oh mom. please. you're partly to blame for this awful habit, when you insisted that she not use a binky. i'll send you the ortho bill later. besides, i thought this would be good news for you since you hate it when she sucks fingers. you should start signing in as anonymom.

abbie- we're ghetto, but our system totally worked. we went and bought some cheap clear sprinkler tubing, sliced it open down the middle and inserted the unruly wires. it worked like a charm and cost us less than $2. speaker wires are thinner than computer wires, but i'm pretty sure they have a larger size that just might work for you.

it must be something in the air... because i am in the midst of an out of control decluttering/purging session. i have been getting rid of so much useless crap that i've been hanging onto for YEARS (and cody is acutally participating too)... it's therapy i tell you. once i get my house fully decluttered then i will touch up all the chipped paint that drives me crazy.

and thank you so much for the tip on the mavala stop. i bought thum to and it's a load of crap. she just sucks it right off. i have recently given up on her and her finger sucking because it's such a fight... and she's so happy with that fat little finger. but if this mavala stop stuff works, maybe that will do all the fighting for me.

sorry i wrote a novel.

I love doing all the fix it stuff... so gratifying really. PS- I was a thumb sucker and that stuff NEVER kept me away from my thumb- what is funny is now that I still bite my fingernails...that stuff is horrible when eating finger foods...let's just say your food never really tastes normal. Rough. But obviously the end result is what you are going for!
