my husband knows me well, especially my love for trash. he constantly wins me over by bringing me home trash. i'm one lucky lady, huh?
okay, it's not always trash per se, but it's stuff that he sees while at work in people's carports or garages that they don't want anymore and practically beg for him to take from them. case in point, this piece of furniture.
the other day, he walked into the house with an armful of pristine wrapping paper. they were sitting on the curb waiting for the bulk trash pick-up and bryce knew i'd love the houndstooth, damask and swirl designs printed on them, so he snatched 'em up. i laughed at him when he brought them to me and told him how romantic he was to bring me home a bouquet of wrapping paper from the trash.
and i'm not the only lucky recipient. a few months ago he rescued two coupe cars from the garbage truck and brought them home to our girls. he wins our girls' hearts over with his garbage dump rescue, recycling heroics, too.
sometimes he'll even pix message me a picture of his latest find. like this lamp that he found that goes perfectly in our baby's nursery. a few weeks later while browsing at target, we found the exact same lamp still for sale.
the buffet turned tv stand that i linked above has been my very favorite finds of his. it was the perfect piece that we had been looking for and it was, once again, free. but i had no idea that he could possibly top it. that is until last week when he surprised me with an even better find...
i think this needs a little prefacing.
the time is nearing where we need to move emaline on over to ava's room, and for ava to finally move into a twin bed. ideally we were hoping to find a cheap headboard at a garage sale or thrift store that we could fix up and paint, and hopefully it would be tall enough for us to fit a trundle underneath for little em's. i scoured craigslist and thrift stores, but never found something that i liked or thought would work in our price range.
as bryce was out working last week, he happened to deliver next to a house that had just sold. a truck with a trailer was parked in the driveway and the garage was filled with random things, mostly junk. then something caught his eye; a headboard. he wondered if the man was actually moving in/out or if he was taking it all to the thrift store. bryce asked and the man explained that it was all items left by the previous owner and he was actually taking it all to the dump and that he was welcome to take anything that he wanted.
when bryce got home, he told me he had a surprise for me outside. not only was there a beautiful twin bed complete with head and footboard, but it also had wooden bedrails, four tall bed posts and to my complete surprise a trundle that went with it. they were covered in dirt and cobwebs, but we both saw the beauty underneath. now this may seem like a silly thing to be grateful for, but both of us couldn't help but truly feel blessed. we share the desire to provide a nice home with nice things for our kids, despite the rough patch of our current economic situation and this find felt like a blessing more than anything. and ava, with a huge grin and hug thanked her daddy for getting her this beautiful bed. what a perfect example of one person's trash being another's treasure. here's a sneak peek at our find, i can't wait to show you all the cleaned up end result.

Now Way! That is an awesome find Diana... and will fit just perfectly into your well manacured house. Did the finials (sp) come with the bed too? I'm sure Home Depot has them if not.
