school works

have i told you yet how much ava loves preschool?
well, she does. and we are so lucky to have such a sweet teacher to send her to, as well. they do such fun things and i'm amazed at how busy they are the whole 3 1/2 hours that they're over there. ava comes home with lots of paintings, drawings, projects and other school work and she's always so excited to open her backpack and show me what she did that day. i especially love to see her name scrawled atop her papers.

since she was bringing home so many things, the refrigerator was not the ideal place to display these fine works of art, and throwing them immediately in the trash or hidden away in a basket seemed like such a waste of her efforts, so instead i began thinking of ways i could organize/display her school work. i finally came up with this.

i used an old wooden curtain rod, spray painted it cream, then added some curtain rings with clips that i bought on clearance at target a few weeks earlier. it hangs in her room by her bed, so she can enjoy her pieces of art. she is so proud to see her work displayed for all to see. i love that i can teach her to be neat and organized by letting her choose which ones we should throw out when the hanging clips get full. with each new paper she brings home, we throw one of the old ones out. it has been a great solution and now we can fully appreciate her works of art in a tidy and organized fashion!

good idea, d.

i think it's amazing that you can throw things away. so far every last paper miles has brought home from preschool has been saved. i'm compiling everything in a three-ring binder, so he'll have one a year for all of his school years. (i realize miles will probably have no interest in this little collection, but maybe his kids will...)

sar... i totally know what you mean about throwing things out. i save all of her papers that i think are a little more meaningful or that have more interest, but the random scribbled watercolors, fingerpaints, and quick crayon are easier for me to throw out, and usually, it's those papers that ava tends to choose to toss.

I saw this the other day when I was over there....so cute! With Ella in school too, you can imagine the papers I am bombarded with daily, I have to throw most except the most precious away! Even then, there are a lot but I am sure to wait until they are in bed to do any throwing away!

funny...we did the same thing with ruby's playroom a couple of weeks back. only i wasn't as creative as you, and just went with the ikea version.
