christmas oh! nine {part one}

christmas has come and gone so quickly and now the new year is just around the corner. this year has rushed on by so fast and has left me feeling caught dizzy in the whirlwind. january 1st you will see me digging my heels into the ground and holding onto every hour of every day and savoring it as long as i possibly can. i feel as though i've been tugged and rushed about and i want nothing more than to sit back, take it easy and enjoy the (slowed down) ride. mark my words, this is the year that i will make it happen! we have big plans for 2010 and i want to enjoy it all to the fullest.

well before i get too ahead of myself, i must write about our christmas. the wonderful christmas that i got to spend with my beautiful little family. i apologize ahead of time for the length of my next few posts, but i'd like to make a record of it for my own forgetful self. hopefully, you'll enjoy it along the way.

emaline had no idea what was going on when we were busy all month building gingerbread houses, baking treats, decorating our house, putting up the tree, watching christmas movies and specials, talking about jesus' birthday, singing and listening to christmas songs and driving around looking at lights. she had no idea, but had fun joining us in all of our holiday hustle and bustle. but ava, she knew. she knew december was extra special and had so much fun taking it all in. she loved checking the mail and seeing all of the beautiful christmas cards that were sent to us by dear friends and family. our christmas card display was bowing from all of the cards that were hung on there. we ran out of room and had to start hanging them closer and layering them on top of one another... it was my favorite christmas decoration; seeing how surrounded we were by people who thought of us this season filled me with such love.

christmas eve was spent with bryce's family. we enjoyed dinner, children singing and a live nativity portrayed by the cousins.

ava sang "picture christmas", i enjoyed listening to her sing it all season in her sweet little voice and hope that she remembers all the words when christmas comes around again next year.

ava got to be mary this year and was so thrilled to do so. she took on the role very seriously and was so reverent and sweet while in costume.

well, except for that one time that she wanted to do one silly face picture.

emaline was content and busy as could be in her shepherd costume, i was hardly able to capture a good shot of her.

we concluded the evening at their house with gift exchanging. bryce's parents surprised all the kids (and us) with a trip to disneyland once again. it should be a good time and since ava remembers last year's trip, she's even more excited to go.

we headed to my parent's afterwards and played for a bit, helped wrap some gifts and let the girls open up their new christmas pajamas. then we hurried home before santa skipped over our house. ava left a drawing for santa, and some delicious treats as well, hung her special santa key on the door, then hopped in bed the fastest i've ever seen her do and fell right to sleep.

it was a christmas miracle!

bryce and i enjoyed the evening together watching the family man and finishing up some last minute christmas stuff. it's usually one of my favorite parts of christmas eve. by 1am, we had finished everything up and hurried off to bed so santa could stop by and do his thing as well...
