getting my holiday on...

d monogram wreath
adapted instructions from this site. unlike her, i liked the large monogram wreath idea. bryce traced a large fancy d onto some foam board (he was so surprised when i requested a capital D! gasp!).
i cut it out and wrapped three strands of dollar tree garland around it. added some red beads. wired three small ornaments together and glued a holly berry with leaves into the center and attached it to the wreath. then did the same with a pine cone towards the bottom. $4 and 45 minutes later... boom. my kind of project.

holiday countdown blocks
i was inspired by my friend's halloween countdown blocks that she posted on her blog (she's a private blogger, so i didn't link to her, but this site has a tutorial. i did mine a little different, but you get the idea.) i picked up some cute green and red papers and got to work. instead of hand painting numbers, i bought some die-cut glittery ones instead.... it cut out a lot of work. i mod podge'd the papers to the pre-cut blocks, sanded the edges when dry, then distressed the edges with gold ink. ava loves changing the blocks every day, although she thinks that changing them straight to 00 will somehow magically fast-forward us to christmas.

christmas card holder
i have struggled every year trying to figure out a decent way to display our holiday cards that we receive from friends and family. everything always looks messy and cluttered, but this year, i found a great solution. and it cost me a total of $3.20, and it's neat and tidy.
i purchased some holiday ribbon (which isn't ribbon at all- more like small holiday rope), tied it to some push pins i stuck in the wall, then covered the ends with pre-made holiday garland filler stuff (i don't know what to call it... obviously). i hung the cards using some "fancy ornament holders" i found at the dollar store. they look like swirly S's and i made them function like a paper clip. christmas card problem officially solved.

how have you been getting your holiday on?

Wow those look awesome! I made these stars (put holiday paper on these metal stars) and then wrote peace on earth (a word for each star) on them. Then a took a shadow book and put paper behind it then on the glass put three "let it snow" on it, and on the inside of the box it looks like it's snowing with fake snow. Not nearly as frugal as you are, but then again you've got talent. Once again those are great and beautiful.

I seriously looked at that wreath for like a full minute thinking to myself "why would diana want to have a monogram of her first name on her door? wouldn't the first letter of her LAST name be more appropriate?"

well? wouldn't it?

your decor is mucho bueno....but frankly I'm a bit concerned that you and Bryce don't know each other well enough to know the other's letter case preference.

We totally have coordinating countdown block! I even used some of the same scrapbook paper! I love them! And for one thing I did this year that I am really pleased with...us spray painting my pinecones with gold (or silver). And just enough for the edges to be painted...I love how it made them stand out...well keep posting any other cute ideas you have!

Well, I don't have any friends.. therefore I don't need a way to display the zero amount of christmas cards I get every year. JK. Liked your idea. Ammah keeps telling me you have some fun new family pictures and I thought I might see them on your blog. Guess I'll have to wait.

what the crafty?! look how productive you are with kids and a husband who is always at work. kind of makes me hate you a bit. (but only because it makes me hate myself.)
